Skin Tag and DPN Treatment
What’s The Difference?
Let’s break down the differences between these growths:
Skin Tags:
- Appearance: Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-colored or slightly darker growths attached to the skin by a narrow stalk.
- Location: They often occur in areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, or groin.
- Harmlessness: Skin tags are benign and harmless but can be bothersome or cosmetically undesirable for some individuals.
DPN (Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra):
- Appearance: DPN appears as multiple small, dark, raised papules mainly on the face, especially in individuals with darker skin tones.
- Self-Consciousness: While harmless, DPN may cause self-consciousness due to their visibility, especially in prominent areas like the cheeks and temples.
Seborrheic Keratosis:
- Appearance: Seborrheic keratoses are common noncancerous (benign) skin growths. They are usually brown, black, or light tan, with a waxy or scaly appearance.
- Gradual Development: These growths appear gradually, typically on the face, neck, chest, or back.
Cherry Angiomas:
- Appearance: Cherry angiomas, also known as red moles, are common skin growths. They are typically red and may bleed or change appearance.
- Benign Nature: Cherry angiomas are usually noncancerous and not a cause for concern unless they exhibit unusual symptoms.
Now, let’s focus on the treatment options for DPN and larger seborrheic keratoses:
Treatment Process:
- A consultation is essential to assess your specific needs.
- The treatment involves skin cleansing, 15 minutes of topical numbing, and 30 minutes to treat as many DPNs as possible.
- Each lesion is treated separately, and additional treatments may be necessary.
- Larger DPN and seborrheic keratosis may require mulitple treatments for complete breakdown.
Post-Care and Healing:
- Expect 7-10+ days of downtime after the treatment.
- Treated areas may have redness and swelling initially.
- Lesions will darken and harden before naturally falling off.
- Healing time is approximately 7-10 days on the face and 10-14 days on the body.
- Avoid sun exposure for two weeks after treatment and coordinate around significant events.
- Makeup cannot be applied during the healing process.
- Premature removal of lesions may lead to hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
